About
The name Pugnus Maximus is a playful blend of my two great passions: pugs and ancient coins. "Pugnus" is Latin for "fist"—a nod to Rome and the strength of classical history but it also sounds suspiciously like “pug,” which is no coincidence. My own pugs are not just companions; they’re the unofficial mascots of this collection. "Maximus" is Latin for "greatest" which adds a Roman flair and a wink at the oversized personalities of these small dogs.
Pugs and numismatics may seem worlds apart, but they both reflect what I value most: character, history, and the joy of collecting something truly special. This pursuit isn’t just about collecting ancient coins, it’s about honoring the quirky, the timeless, and the things that make us smile.
Founded in 2024, Pugnus Maximus Numismatics is where Mandy Farris Woods, a lifelong business operations executive with a passion for organizational management brings her expertise and discipline to a more personal pursuit of what she is most passionate about, coins and pugs. What began as a hobby has evolved into a curated pursuit of Roman coins with a sharp eye for rarity, artistry, and historical significance. Named with a wink to both imperial Rome and her love of wrinkly, four-legged companions, Pugnus Maximus blends numismatic expertise with a bit of noble mischief. Whether you’re a seasoned collector or just starting your journey, welcome to a world where the past comes to life, one coin at a time.
